Zawiercie
- Zawiercie is the district town located in ¦l±skie Voivodeship (Province); it is situated near the central part of the Cracow-Częstochowa Upland, at the spring of the Warta River.
For the first time the name "Zawiercie" appeared in the document issued in the 15th century by Duke of Opole Boleslaus V, by the virtue of which Mikołaj Czenar was granted a land (near Zawiercie) to build an inn.
Ath the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century two names of the town were used: Zawiercie Duże (Big Zawiercie), which spread along the road to Poręba, and Zawircie Małe (Small Zawiercie) which was located on the right side of the Warta River along the road leading to Marciszów.
A new single track railway line from Częstochowa to Z±bkowice was established and on December 1, 1847 the first train run through Zawiercie. A double track rai...
