• Zabrze is located in Śląskie Voiovdeship (Province); it is one of the five larges Silesian cities and one of the most important centres of the Upper Silesian Industrial Area.
  
  Thanks to the National Road No.4, which crosses the city, there is a good connection between Zabrze and the western part of Poland. Good connection with Katowice agglomeration is possible due to the Drogowa Trasa Średnicowa (Intercity Road network). What is more, A4 motorway ensures convenient and fast transit between the city and the west and east of the country.
  
  Currently, the area of the city is divided into 17 units - districts and housing estates. These are:
  Biskupice, Centrum Południe, Centrum Północ, Grzybowice, Helenka, Kończyce, Maciejów, Makoszowy, Mikulczyce, Janek housing estate, Mikołaja Kopernika housing estate, Młodego Górnika housing estate, Tadeusza Kotarbińskiego housing estate, Pawłów, Rokitnica, Zaborze Północ, Zaborze Południe.
  
  The most significant municipal investment of the last few years was a modern sewage treatment plant Zabrze - Śródmieście which was opened in 1998; it treats about 70% of the municipal sewage.
  
  A new waste sorting and composting unit, which fulfills technological and ecological requirements of the EU, was opened in the modern Waste Disposal Plant. Since the green areas constitute 62% of the area of Zabrze (fields, parks, forests), contradicitng the stereotype of a grey industrial city, Zabrze is said to be the city of green.
  
  Wolności Street which measures 9.5 km in length is one of longest streets in Poland.
