Wodzislaw Slaski
- Wodzisław Śląski is a border town located in the south-western part of Śląskie Voivodeship (Province); it is an administrative centre of Wodzisław Poviat (second-level admin. unit). The town is located in the central part of Racibórz and Oświęcim Valley, on the Leśnica River (the right tributary of the Olza River).
The first traces of the settlement date back to the Stone Age.
Wodzisław was completely destroyed by the Tatars in 1241. The town was rebuilt and granted privileges by Ladislaus, Duke of Opole, around 1257. In the same year, the Franciscans came to the town and established a convent.
Ladislaus I supported the aspirations of Henry IV Probus to unite Polish lands. Ladislaus even allowed Henry to marry his daughter Constance.
