Suwalki
- Suwałki is a land county in Podlaskie Voivodeship (Province); the town is situated in north-eastern Poland on the river Czarna Hańcza. Suwałki Poviat Authorities are located in the town.
Suwałki was established in 1690 by the Camaldolese monks; at the beginnig it was a small settlement comprising two houses.
According to the legend, the name Suwałki originates from the word "suwałka" which in the dialect of the Lithuanians innabiting the Suwałki Region (called "dzukowie") means miscellany.
The town's location on the intersection of important trade routes had an impact on its fast development. In the year 1700, the village was divided into Suwałki Wielkie and Małe (Great and Small Suwałki).
