Sosnowiec
- Sosnowiec is a city located in ¦l±skie Voivodeship (Province), south-western Poland, in the centre of the Upper Silesian Industrial Area. The town is situated in ¦l±ska Upland, which is a part of Cracow and Częstochowa Upland, on the rivers: Biała Przemsza, Bobrek, Czarna Przemsza and Brynica (the last two demarcate the border of ¦l±skie Voivodeship).
For the first time the name Sosnowiec appeared in the documents of Mysłowice Parish in 1727 and on the map of the Racibórz Duchy in 1736 (originally Sosnowietz); it was a mill village.
After the Third Partition of Poland, the village was annexed to Prussia - it became a part of New Silesia; from 1812 it belonged to the Warsaw Duchy, only to become again a part of Prussia in 1812. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Sosnowiec became a part of the Polish Kingdom (a part of Russia).
