Siemianowice Slaskie
- Siemianowice Śląskie is a town located in Śląskie Voivodeship (Province), in the centre of the Upper Silesia Industrial Area.
At the beginning, Siemianowice was a fishing village - and this fact is shown in the coat of arms.
Siemianowice property, as well as other Silesian lands, frequently changed their owners. After Mikołaj Mieroszewski bought this land at the end of the 16th century Siemianowice became a royal mansion; his family reigned here for over 100 years. In 1718, the land became the property of Count Henckel von Donnersmarck, who built the castle - today the biggest historic building in the whole Upper Silesia Industrial Area.
In the 19th century the whole region was changed into an industrial centre - the first hard coal mine "Leśna" was opened in 1786 in Bytków (Siemianowice district). Today this district is well known f...
