Sanok
- Sanok is a district town in Podkarpackie Voivodeship (Province), located in the valley of the San River.
Sanok was founded around the 10th or 11th century. In the 12th century it was already a fortified settlement and an important administrative centre. The oldest written reference to the town comes the times when it was under the rule of Ruthenian dukes.
In 1339, Ruthenian Duke Jerzy Trojdanowicz granted Sanok town charter based on the Magdeburg Law.
In the 14th century, thanks to King Casimir the Great, the land of Halich Ruthenia along with the Sanok region were annexed to Poland. New settlements were established here in the 14th and the 15th century, among many there were: Trepcza, Czerteż, Prusiek, Nowotaniec, Kostarowce, Tyrawa Solna, Stróże Wielkie and Stróże Małe, Hłomcza, Płowce, Sanoczek as well as Międzybroch.
