Rybnik
- Rybnik is a city located in Śląskie Voivodeship (Province), southern Poland; it is the largest town of the Rybnik Coal Region - one of the most important economic centres in Poland.
Until 1336 (later also in the years 1521-1532) Rybnik was governed by the Piast Dynasty; the medieval castle from that period can be still admired today. In the years 1336-1512, the city was under the rule by the Bohemian dynasty Przemyślidzi.
Rybnik developed as a local trade and craft centre - it was mainly known for fish breeding. In the 15th century, it was destroyed by Husites and in 1433, Rybnik hill saw a victorious battle with the supporters of Husitism.
From 1526 Rybnik, together with its surroundings, constituted a separate area called the State of Rybnik and together with the region of Silesia, it depended on the Austrian Habsburgs. From 1740 Rybnik belo...
