• Ruda Śląska is a city located in Śląskie Voivodeship (Province), southern Poland, in the Upper Silesian Industrial Area.
  
  The city existed as early as 1243. The first reference to the town founded under German law appears in the document, the so called Registrum Wyasdense (Rejestr Ujazdu), from 1295-1305.
  
  From the very beginning, Ruda Śląska was connected with mining of metal ores, which in the second half of the 17th century led to the discovery of something much more precious - hard coal.
  
  In 1740 the first formal attempts were made to obtain permits to establish mines in Ruda.
  
  The rich coal resources attracted many entrepreneurs who made investments in building mines, steelworks, coking plants and brickyards. This, in turn, This led to a quick increase in the number of inhabitants and changed the shape of the village of Ruda. Agriculture was limited to small farms, the owners of which also worked in the industry.
  
  In 1840 a zinc works Carlshütte was opened - the then biggest in europe; in 1856 a steelworks Berths started to work, and new mines were established.
  
  The time of Nazi occupation was another painful period in the city
