Pszczyna
- Pszczyna is a poviat town in Śląskie Voivodeship (Province), located on the Pszczynka River (left bank of Vistula River).
Pszczyna Land became a separate administrative unit in 1407; however, even before this date Pszczyna Region had had its specific character. The first reference to the town appears in the documents from 1303, yet Pszczyna had been founded much earlier. From the early Middle Ages an important trade route leading from the far-away Ruthenia through Kraków, Brama Morawska to the Dunaj River crossed the town.
In 1548, Jan Turzo, the Hungarian magnate, sold the Duchy of Pszczyna to the Wrocław Bishop Baltazar Promnitz from Żary.
For 200 years the Duchy was in possession of one of the most prominent family of the Silesian Region. Under their reign, and later under the rule of the Dukes of Anhalt-Köthen related to the Promnitz fami...
