Leszno
- Leszno is a town in Wielkopolskie Voivodeship (Province). It is located in the western part of Poland, between two large economic centres - Poznań and Wrocław. It is the sixth largest town in the voivodeship.
Originally Leszno was the knights' property, the first reference to which appeared in 1393.
From the very beginning, the town was known for its tolerance for different religions, thrift, craft, as well as patriotic uprisings of its citizens.
It was granted town rights in 1547.
In 1606, with Leszno owner's consent, the Jews began to settle in the town.
The first Coat of Arms which represented the town from 1738 combined elements of the Wieniawa Coat of Arms - also the Leszczyńscy family Crest, and the Topór Coat of Arms - the Tęczyńscy family Crest (Barbara, the wife of Rafał IV Marszałkowic, was a ...
