Jastrzebie-Zdroj
- Jastrzębie-Zdrój is a town located in south-western Poland, Śląskie Voivodeship (Province), on the south-eastern edge of the Rybnik Coal Region.
The development of the town was closely connected with the discovery of the brine springs and the establishment of a health resort. In 1962 a Spring House was opened in the Park in the Zdrój district.
The outbreak of World War II hindered the development of the town; the existing sanatorium buildings were renovated after the war. As the result of intensive geological research which started in 1951, hard coal deposits were discovered. In 1962 the first mine started to work, yet the health resort gradually declined.
Jastrzębie was granted town rights in 1963 after the merger of the villages: Jastrzębie Dolne, Jastrzębie Górne, Zdrój health resort, Moszczenica, Borynia, Szeroka, Zofiówka, Bzi Zamecki, Ci...
