Dabrowa Gornicza

 
  • D±browa Górnicza is a town located in ¦l±skie Voivodeship (Province), south-western Poland, at the eastern edge of the Upper Silesian Industrial Area.

    The first reference to D±browa appeared in the books of the Siewierz Starosty in 1775. On the basis of the historical records, it is assumed that D±browa was founded at the beginning of the 18th century.

    In 1785 hard coal deposits were discovered in the area. Until the Thirt Partition of Poland, when D±browa became a part of Prussia, the mine workings had been exploited by the local citizens, in particular by Będziny townsmen.

    After the establishment of the Warsaw Duchy, D±browa became a part of the Duchy of Siewierz, which Napoleon gave to the marshal J. Lannes de Mentebello.
