Cieszyn
- Cieszyn is a poviat town (land county) in Śląskie Voivodeship (Silesian Province), situated on the right bank of the Olza River at the foot of Beskid Śląski. The border with Czech Republic runs through the town. As it comprises 36 ths. people, Cieszyn is not a big town; yet, it is an important cultural, educational and administrative centre. The branch of the University of Silesia is located here. Every year numerous festivals are organised in the town, among many there are: the Borderline International Theater Festival, the Viva il Canto Festival of Vocal Music, Era New Horizons Film Festival.
It is one of the oldest towns in Silesia Region. Archeological traces indicate that the origins of the town date back to the 5th century. The history of Cieszyn interweaves with the history of the whole region of Cieszyn Silesia (in Polish: Śląsk Cieszyński). The Ro...
