Biala Podlaska
- Biała Podlaska is a capital of the poviat located in the northern part of Lubelskie Voivodeship (Province).
The first reference to the town appears in the historical documents from 1481.
It was during this time that Biała was located in Brzeskie Voivodeship which was a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
From 1568 the town belonged to the Radziwiłł family.
During this period, which lasted for two and a half centuries, the town developed quickly; for a long time, the town was known as Biała Książęca or Biała Radziwiłłowska. Biała Podlaska flourished: a fortified castle was built, Bialska Academy was established with the money of Kszysztof Ciborowicz Wilski Foundation (in 1633 the Academy became a branch of Cracow Academy), numerous temples and a hospital were built.
